<p> DIED. JOHN CURRY, 44, figure skater; of a heart attack brought
on by AIDS-related illness; in Stratford-on-Avon, Britain. In
his prime, Curry brought a revolutionary level of artistic sophistication
to his sport. Known to his admirers as "Nureyev on Ice," his
performances owed as much to ballet as to acrobatics. After
capturing the British junior championship in 1967 and the senior
title in 1970, Curry came to the U.S. to train with Italian
coach Carlo Fassi. His golden year was 1976, when he captured
top honors at the European and World championships, as well
as the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. Turning pro, he
starred in his own ice show in London's West End. Found to be
hiv positive in 1987, Curry freely discussed both his homosexuality
and his advancing illness in his final years.
